Hunger strike of 300 migrants in Athens and Thessaloníki: Legalisation Now! xx of February 2011
Ladies and Gentlemen,
we are writing to you on the occasion of the hunger strike of 300 migrants which is currently taking place in Athens and Thessaloníki. We have followed the situation of refugees and migrants in Greece. We are not surprised that – again – migrants feel compelled to choose such a strong measure to campaign for their rights: putting their lives at risk. We express our solidarity with their cause.
With this letter, we want to urge you to fulfil the demands of the hunger striking migrants, i.e. the unconditional legalisation of all migrants in Greece, before it is too late. We are acutely aware that the hunger strike is approaching its 30th day, and already, many hunger strikers had to be hospitalised. Their health and indeed their lives are at risk here, and it is the responsibility of the Greek government to resolve the situation immediately by decreeing a legalisation. In our understanding, this constitutes the only permanent and viable solution to the despicable situation of refugees and migrants in Greece, a political issue various Greek governments have struggled with unsuccessfully.
By following the migrants’ demands, the Greek government can send powerful political signals. A legalisation would be the strongest communication to the other EU member states that the current system of delegating responsibility to the fringes of Europe cannot continue and needs a courageous solution. A legalisation would also finally end the years of uncertainty migrants have been facing in Greece and attribute them their rights as part of the society that they have long earned by their labour in the Greek economy and the life they have led in Greece. A legalisation would also send a clear political message that it is necessary to deal with the new and (be)coming citizens in a fair, respectful and dignified way and that xenophobia and racism are damnable attitudes that better belong to the past.

Police is publishing new vacancies for 81 Psychologists, Sociologists
and Translators for Farsi , Urdu Pashto and Arabic for 6 months starting
July 2011. The job is to translate and work with future deportees
preparing the documents and the interviews before the deportation. The work will take place in Athens, Lesvos,Chios, Samos Orestiada and Axaia, in deportation prisons. sounds like a hot summer is aproaching!

Today is day 21 of the hunger strike. This is a report about the last
days. Most of the hunger striking migrants arrived from Crete on a
ferry 22 days ago, in order to start the hunger strike. There were huge
banners on the ferry, announcing the aims and demands of the hunger
strike.
Solidarity groups welcomed the migrants at the port of Piraeus, and
then, they altogether moved to an empty building of the university in
the centre of Athens. A university building was picked because police is
not allowed to enter the university (university asylum) since the end
of the military junta, when soldiers entered the polytechnic university
by force.
Just as the hunger strike had started, political parties and main stream
media started a agitating against the strike. The government sued the
owner of the ferry, its agents and the captain for the smuggling of
illegalised people (“trafficking”). This is a big joke, since ANEK-lines
has been doing deportations for the greek government for years. A few
days later already, 1.800 persons had denounced themselves publically
for having supported refugees as an act of solidarity.
The agitation led to the hunger strikers having to leave the university
building after a few days, as the police threatened to enter by force. We had a gun to our head,
one of the activists later stated on a press conference. The very
night, a substitute place for more than 100 hunger strikers had to be
found. After several hours of negotiations with the paolce and with the
owner of a nearby, empty villa, a solidarity demonstration brought the
hunger strikers to the new place. Since only the first floor and the
cellar can be used, the majority of the hunger strikers have to camp in
the yard. Heavy rain turned the situation precarious, only on the 5th of
February, a change of weather alleviated the situation.
The hunger strikes are being supported, protected and accompanied day
and night by solidarity groups. Since the hunger strikers are very
adamant about retaining their autonomy, decisions are made in different
assemblies, which nevertheless have exchange. The atmosphere is
characterised by determination and respect. Many people support the
strikers by visiting or practical aid.
On the 8th of February, a lot of migrant organisations from Athens and
Greece declared their solidarity with the hunger strikers and their
demands in a press conference. The hunger strikers announced that very
day that they would now also stop to drink tea.
On the 9th of February, a long live concert with many greek musicians
took place on the adjacent square. There were songs, but also speeches
by the migrants and statements of solidarity.
On the 11th and 12th of February, two big demonstrations took place in Athens, where 1.500 people participated. Since more then 80 days afghan political refugees are also in strike and since 40 days 8 young refugees are in hunger strike and sewied nouth incloude one one woman befor two weeks they are demanding political asylum .and their strike wl keep on tell the resault come out from the Greek government this is what the decide . پیدا کردن هدف زندگی به افراد کمک می کند مطمئن شوند اعمالی را که روزانه انجام می دهند به آنچه در نهایت زندگی می خواهند برسند. این با عث می شود بتوانند زندگیشان را خودشان خلق کنند. حقیقت این است که افراد برای پیدا کردن هدفشان تلاش می کنند اما خیلی ها نمی توانند هدفشان را پیدا کنند و زندگی های تصادفی را می گذرانند، بدون اینکه واقعاً به جای برسند. این افراد چون که هدف ندارند، هیچ کنترولی بر زندگیشان ندارند و تا اخر تصادفی زندگی می کنند.
چهار قدم برای پیدا کردن هدف زندگی
۱٫ اهدافی برای خودتان تعیین کنید: اهداف چیزهایی هستند که میخواهید به آنها برسید. اینها نیت ها و آرزوهای شما هستند.
۲٫ مرحله عمل را تعیین کنید: برای رسیدن به آن اهداف باید چه کارهایی انجام دهید؟
۳٫ رفتارتان را کنترل کنید: ببینید آیا واقعاً آنچه که باید را انجام می دهید؟
۴٫ اعمالتان را کنترل کنید: آیا اعمالتان باعث به وقوع پیوستن اهدافتان می شوند؟ درصورت نیاز آنها را تغییر دهید.
وقتی بتوانید هدفمند زندگی کنید، کنترل زندگیتان را در دست خود احساس خواهید کرد، در پهلوی موفقیت بسیار شادتر خواهید بود. Life You've determined your life purpose? The hunger strike of the 300 has been going on for over a week now. The reactions in Greece are quite strong, a lot of people and organisations have expressed their solidarity with the hunger strikers, however, the state has not been idle either, first attacking the hunger strikers because of their choice of place to hold the strike, thenthreatening their eviction by force. Now they are also going after the supporters, threatening them with legal action
It is time that we show our solidarity! We call for a European Week of Solidarity with the hunger strike, from the 7th to the 13th of February. Not only are there Greek consulates and embassies all over, the problem is a European one, so there are plenty of places to go and to protest.
